Beethoven's presence inspires the yearning souls to carry on. Swept up in a column of fire, they finally reach true happiness. As the climax of the frieze, a heavenly choir serenades a naked couple embracing in ecstasy, singing the Ode to Joy - Friedrich Schiller's poem incorporated into the Ninth Symphony: Joy, you beautiful spark of the gods ... under thy gentle wings, all men shall become brothers.
