IN315 ¦ VOGO unknown date

Lockheed L.1049G Super Constellation (c/n 4614)

Indian Navy

INS Hansa, Goa-Dabolim (VOGO)

unknown date

The Indian Navy operated five Super Constellations on long-range maritime reconnaissance missions. All five were former Air India and Indian Air Force machines, and based at INS Hansa at Goa-Dabolim with INAS 312 "Albatross".

Included was IN315, which was captured at its homebase at an unknown date. The Constellations were in service with the Navy between 1976 and 1983, so the photo was most probably taken in the late seventies.

IN315 was built for Air India as VT-DHM in 1955, and was acquired by the Air Force as BG-575 in 1961. In November 1976 it was transferred to the Navy, and when the type was struck off charge in 1983 and replaced by Ilyushin IL-38s and later Tu-142s, IN315 was preserved and is now on display at the Naval Aviation Museum in Goa.
