Not very much is known about this Mil Mi-8T helicopter, except that it was sometime delivered to the Indian Air Force as Z2839, and eventually loaned to the Cost Guard Air Wing of the Maldives National Defence Force.
Still serialled Z2839 and wearing Indian Air Force colours but a Maldivian roundel, it was seen basking in the sun at Guraidhoo, spending at least some shadow for its crew members.
Z2839's further history is largely unknown, except that it was reported back with the Indian Air Force in 1996. As the type was generally retired with the Indian Air Force in December 2017, it is safe to assume that Z2839 has been stored and possibly dismantled or scrapped.
Guraidhoo Heliport is no longer active, after Thimarafushi Airport on nearby Thimarafushi Island in the Thaa Atoll was openend in 2013. Transport to the airport is via speedboat, and there are now also air taxi float planes.
