N34PB ¦ APF 03.02.1981

Douglas DC-3-277B (c/n 2204)

PBA Provincetown-Boston Airline

Naples-Municipal (APF/KAPF)

03 February 1981

N34PB was one of many PBA DC-3s and Martin 404s to be found at their homebase in Naples, FL, in early 1981, and was seen basking in the sun awaiting its next trip.

This aircraft was built in 1940 for American Airlines, which can be made out by the starboard side entrance. Only American's DC-3s had this configuration, all others had the main entrance/cargo door on port side.

Between 1942 and 1944 the DC-3 was loaned to the USAAF, after which it continued to serve with American until 1949. PBA acquired it in 1971 and re-registered it as N34PB in 1974. It served with PBA until 1992, when it was sold and eventually ended up in Switzerland as HB-IRJ in 2009, flying with the Super Constellation Flyers Association and Aero Passion.

In 2019 HB-IRJ was sold as N3291, and is now on display at the MS0 Air & Space Museum at Sivrihisar Air Park, Turkey, and is reportedly still airworthy.
