Amphitheater
103/365 2025
The Amphitheater from the Rim Trail was my first view of Bryce Canyon National Park.
This natural bowl-shaped area is known for its striking landscape filled with thousands of colorful rock spires called hoodoos. These hoodoos formed over millions of years through a process called frost-wedging and erosion. Water seeped into cracks in the rock, froze, and expanded, breaking the rock apart. Over time, rain and melting snow washed away the softer layers, leaving behind the tall, thin spires of harder rock. The result is dramatic and otherworldly.
