Private land - a path of Wild Garlic leading to woodland. Along the centre of the image you can see the route taken by an animal. The aroma here was amazing!
Wild garlic is a medium-sized, bulbous perennial known for its strong garlic scent that fills woodlands in spring. Its long, pointed, oval leaves grow from the base and emit a pungent aroma. The plant produces clusters of small, white, six-petalled flowers on tall, leafless stalks. It reproduces mainly through bulbs and bulbils, with seeds playing a minor role. Wild garlic can be mistaken for lily-of-the-valley when not flowering; however, key differences in leaf and flower structure help distinguish them—important since lily-of-the-valley is poisonous. Common across the UK, wild garlic thrives in damp, deciduous woodlands and chalky soils. It also serves as an indicator of ancient woodland, marking ecologically valuable habitats.
