The Mallard is a common and widespread species found on shallow, still waterbodies, including some brackish coastal sites. While northern populations are migratory, local breeding birds are mostly sedentary. Large numbers are also released for commercial shoots. Ringing data show that wintering birds come from across Europe, including France, the Netherlands, the Baltic States, Finland, and Russia.
