The Serpentine Bridge

IMG_1211

Located in Hyde Park, London, the bridge was designed by Sir John Rennie FRSA (30 Aug 1794 - 3 Sep 1874) and built in 1826 with his brother George Rennie (3 Dec 1791 – 30 Mar 1866).

When built, the bridge across the Serpentine formally split Hyde Park from Kensington Gardens by the creation of a new road called West Carriage Drive.

Description. Bath stone. 5 segmental arches with 2 semi-circular footways, separated from others by projecting pilaster-buttresses. Semi-circular cut waters. Channelled rustication to spandrels. Scrolly keystones. Console cornice. Balustraded parapet.
