Grey Heron (Ardea Cinerea).

River Rhine, vicinity of Eltville, Hesse, Germany.

The Grey Heron, with its distinctive grey, black, and white plumage, is commonly found near rivers, lakes, or in flooded fields. Its large size, broad wings, long legs, and folded neck create a recognisable silhouette in flight, occasionally accompanied by a harsh call. Nesting in long-established treetop colonies known as heronries, the species has been monitored in the UK since 1928. While the breeding population increased and peaked in the early 2000s, recent years have seen some decline.
