Epping High Street - St John the Baptist Church

Essex 2025

The history of St. John the Baptist church in Epping began in the 14th century as a free chapel belonging to Waltham Abbey, becoming a chapel of ease to All Saints in Epping Upland. The building was enlarged in 1622 and rebuilt in 1832 before the current, Gothic Revival church was constructed in 1889, with its spire added later. The church became the parish church of Epping in 1888 and is a prominent landmark in the town.
