The Blasted Oak
THE OAK
A mighty oak once strong and true
Shattered by nature’s viscous brew
Of lightning, blizzard, wind and rain
Again, and again, and again, and again.
Shattered arms stretch to the sky
Defying spirits from on high,
I may look dead, but I’m not gone
The life force within me goes on and on
Decay and rot will chip me away
As beetles and fungi have their sway
Returning to earth my body and soul
So that new growth can prosper and enthrall all.
