Bruno Recovering (3)

Bruno was diagnosed with Diabetes 4 days ago. He was in a very advanced state (Ketoacidosis).

The vet said that without hospitalization, he would have a 10% chance of survival. Audrey and I simply can't afford a $6,000 hospital bill, so we opted for home-care.

He's on Insulin, subcutaneous fluid injections, and Antibiotics. His blood glucose has come down to 260 (it was over 360 just 5 days ago). He's got his appetite back, along with some energy. He's lost nearly 25% of his body weight (65lb now - 85lb before).

He's slowly recovering - but it's going to be a long road ahead before he's back to his 'normal' self.

Here, he is eating a home-made concoction of baked chicken breast, broccoli, and peas - with a little of his dry dog food. As you can see, he's a little fussy, and picks out the veggies and dry food, and goes for the chicken. This is better than just 2 days ago, where he wouldn't eat ANY chicken or even steak that was 'contaminated' with veggies or dry dog food.
