Distance learning, at it's finest. ๐
๐15 years ago, Jamie Oliver filmed a Ted Talk, warning us of the severe consequences of the childhood obesity epidemic and the need for intervention. This talk inspired my work in educating young children about nutrition, as shown in this photo, when I gave a remote Zoom lesson to my sonโs kindergarten class.
After seeing this photo, someone mentioned my likeness to Martha Stewart. It was the second time in my life I had been referred to as this celebrity. The first time was when I wore pink tweed suits to the office in 2005โฆ which was a vast departure from the sea of navy and black suits.
Today, I laugh at the Martha Stewart reference, as sure, we are both brilliant blondes who can whip up a delicious apple pie in the kitchen, but that's where our similarities end, no doubt. ๐
๐ It would be cool to teach a group of children again one day, weโll see. I've always thought we have so much to learn from them, if we truly listen. It never made sense to pursue a higher education degree in the US to teach, as it's an overly, unnecessarily lengthy process even if you already have a masters degree, as I hold. (Not to mention, then you're out of pocket for simple expenses!)
โ๏ธA funny side note: almost two years ago, on my Amtrak trips, I met several UCSB college students and pitched them a fun class idea, which included teaching from the contents of my purse, the local beach and a jetโฆ Low and behold, I filled my imaginary roster. ๐
๏ธAll kidding aside, speaking to these students provided me with a renewed faith in humanity (which I desperately needed at the time!) and filled train/bus delays with fun conversation. It would be funny to run into one of these nice young adults today. Also, I am a woman of my word, so if resources were provided, I'd consider teaching that aforementioned class. ๐ฉ๐ซ Wouldn't that be something? Hey, you never know, do you! Life is full of surprises. โจ๐ค
