Morning Rays at Ravnholm – A Serene Capture in Time

This photograph was captured early one tranquil June morning in 2014, during my time as a security guard at Haldor Topsøe in Lyngby, Denmark. Each morning around 6 AM, I would wait for the train at Ravnholm Station, but due to the early hour, there was always about a 30-minute wait. On this particular day, rather than waiting idly, I decided to walk to Ørholm Station and had my trusted Nikon D5100 camera with me.

As luck would have it, the morning mist combined with sunlight created a captivating natural phenomenon often referred to as "crepuscular rays," "sunbeams," or even poetically as "God rays." These rays occur when sunlight filters through gaps in the foliage or clouds, illuminating particles suspended in the air, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.

The peaceful scene, bathed in soft golden hues and enveloped by morning fog, perfectly captures the essence of early summer mornings in Denmark. Though I'd like to attribute it entirely to skill, I humbly admit that luck played a significant role in achieving this beautifully composed shot.

The Nikon D5100, a versatile and reliable DSLR camera popular at the time, allowed me to capture the subtle interplay of light and shadow precisely at ISO 180, an aperture of f/8.0, and a shutter speed of 1/250 second. At a focal length equivalent of 120mm, it framed the scene perfectly, immortalizing a simple yet breathtaking moment in time.

It's astonishing to realize that 11 years have passed since this serene morning. Reflecting on this image reminds me of how fleeting yet timeless these quiet moments can be—a visual testament to carrying your camera and trusting in life's unpredictable beauty.
