Oops Paddington 02
Even with the passing of the years, Paddington Brown remained a curious and eager bear. While some might say he was getting older, Paddington much preferred to think of himself as simply gaining more experience — particularly when it came to marmalade and raincoats, although his wasn’t quite as waterproof as he liked to believe.
One evening, he set off on a short weekend trip to a nearby town. Mr. Gruber had lent him an old map, and Paddington had been rather excited about visiting a night market. But just as he stepped out of the delivery van he had politely borrowed — with full permission, of course — a dark cloud drifted in as quietly as a mouse, and before long, a persistent rain began to fall.
Paddington tried to shelter beneath a parking sign, but it proved more decorative than useful. His suitcase became soggy, his hat dripped steadily, and the marmalade sandwich he kept in his coat pocket had turned into something rather more like fruit soup. Still, he straightened his coat, lifted his chin, and remarked as politely as possible, “I believe the sky may have mistaken my outing for a garden.”
And though he was thoroughly soaked, with boots in this paws splashing through puddles in the dimly lit car park, Paddington found the whole thing rather refreshing. After all, with or without luck when it came to the weather, no adventure was ever truly complete without a minor inconvenience — and a well-prepared bear always kept a small towel at the bottom of his suitcase.
