Black Sea Beached Boat

I love minimalism in landscape photography. After the soon-to-be released fine art “Intimate Landscapes” photography book will be released in just a couple of months, I have already begun work on the sister book “Minimalism - The Art of Simplicity” for release next year.

Standing on the shores of the Black Sea in Bulgaria there were very few elements to work with. Just a single boat, clouds which softened the background light, and the water’s surface. A minimalist opportunity at its very best. Using a 10-stop ND filter, I chose a six minutes exposure. This gave enough time for the clouds to form streaking lines in the sky while giving the sea surface a texture like brushed aluminum to diffuse the reflections. The anticipated length of the cloud streaks determined whether the composition would be a landscape or portrait style. I chose landscape mode to increase the negative space in the frame to enhance to minimalist look to the image.
