Mongolian Steppes Rider
It is a tradition that dates back 900 years to the time of the Mongol Empire. Like traditional practices elsewhere in the world, the art of hunting with eagles is on the verge of extinction. But Mongolian Falconry is alive and well kept (with pride) in Kazakh culture in Mongolia. It is a lifetime decision to become a hunter using birds as it takes 3-4 years to train a golden eagle to hunt. When out hunting, it is not easy for the hunter as they must carry the bird weighing 3-7kg on an outstretched arm. For this shot on the steppes of Mongolia, I used three images stitched together in PhotoShop. Beginning on the left side of the frame I took the first two before the rider was in the scene. For the third image on the right, I framed the camera position and then waited for the rider to approach and was in the best frame location.
