Bandon Sea Stacks Abstract

With heavy fog laying just off the coast and solid clouds overhead, the light was soft and diffuse. Nature was giving me lemons that morning, so I chose to make lemonade. As the sea stacks were naturally dark in tone and with little color in the sky, I chose to work with some very long exposures in black and white. Use of a 10-stop ND filter made for a 5-minute exposure. With no texture in the sky and the sea smoothing into a moving blur, I was able to create a unique seascape abstract. With that extreme exposure time the few birds that flew through the scene were totally invisible. Fortunately.
