Rice Stairway Into the Mist
Marooned in Bali and nearby Lombok for nearly three years during the pandemic, I was free to push my landscape photography boundaries. Bali is well known for its rice paddies, waterfalls, and wildlife so I challenged myself to create an image that would incorporate all three of these characteristics while having the right weather to help set the mood and feel. It took almost two years of scouting locations to find one that was opportune. What then followed was a lot of just sitting and waiting for the right conditions and timing (mainly for the birds and light). My patience (and the imposed travel restrictions) eventually paid off, resulting in this image. Years of waiting to get just a few seconds of image making (thanks to the birds transiting) made it all worthwhile.
