Bulgarian Fog Forest
Bulgarian Fog Forest
It is a challenge to spend the early morning walking through a wood where everything all looks the same and trying to figure out how to make an image from all the sameness. Such was how I was beginning to feel as I ventured through this Bulgarian forest. To paraphrase a saying: “I could not see the image through the trees”. I came to realize I was relying too much on my sense of sight and ignoring what I was feeling. With the low light, dark and damp tree trunks, and fog it was the mood generated by these elements in combination I needed to focus on rather than making just an image of trees. Creating an image where its subject was the mood being generated was the challenge. Trees, fog, and light became the supporting actors of the image’s mood. I made this image using intentional camera movement (ICM) to reduce detail and add a feeling of mystery to the scene.
