Whitby Abbey Ruins Reflection

Whitby Abbey Ruins Reflection

The Whitby Abbey was built in the 7th century and now stands in ruins on a cliff overlooking the North Sea in Yorkshire, England. It served as an abbey until it was confiscated by King Henry VIII around 1540 during the reform period. The abbey has seen destruction stemming from a range of attackers ranging from 9th century Danish Vikings to WWI German navel shelling. The ruins have been restored to the shell we see currently. Set against the backdrop of a sunset sky, both sky and the impressive ruins are reflected in the mirrored surface of a nearby pond. I used a very low perspective to achieve the reflected abbey size that would match the stone structure.
