The Old Man of Storr

The Old Man of Storr

Located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, the Old Man of Storr (Bodach an Stòr in Gaelic), on the Trotternish Ridge, is a 55-meter-high pinnacle of basalt rock. It is all that remains of a 2,800-million-year-old volcanic plug. The pinnacle and the nearby ridges get a lot of tourist traffic particularly when it is sunny and warm. However, the best conditions for photography are when the weather is not so nice. A mixture of storm clouds and light can provide for dramatic scenes, but patience is needed to wait for the right conditions to light the pinnacle and provide good separation from the surroundings.
