Amazon Silence 2463

Amazon Silence

Near the estuary of the Amazon River, the water cuts a wide swath through a very sparsely populated land. One morning, I sat by the riverbank next to our camp watching and listening to the world unfold before me. The river moved by slowly but what was very unusual was the silence that surrounded me. The normal jungle cacophony was not to be heard. The thick, overcast clouds seemed to function as a blanket over the entire region snuffing out all sound so that it felt like there was a weighted stillness to the air. The silence was so pronounced that it was as if I could feel it pressing in around me. The grey scale of the image helped to create the feeling of desolation and silence that I was feeling.
