On Final Approach

“Being out with Nature you will receive far more than you seek.”

Getting up early to photograph Holland’s windmills and sea fog at sunrise, this was NOT the image I was seeking. The setting was beautiful and all I could hope for - windmills and sea fog rolling into the harbor against a backdrop of softly colored clouds. With their colors reflected in the water and fog I was feeling joyful with the scene before me. However, Nature had something else in mind for me I guess.

While photographing, I head a swan call from not far behind me. Turning, I saw that the bird was on a course that would lead it right past me heading for the nearby windmill. I very quickly reset the camera exposure to achieve a higher shutter speed as the swan grew even with me. With the camera still focused and framed on the landscape scene I was able to take only two shots as the bird glided by on final approach. This is the best on based on the position of the swan in the frame. Nature gave me a lot more than what I initially sought. No complaints. No time to be thinking, just time enough to react to the changing conditions.
