Reason For Not Shooting In Harsh Midday Light

Well, I obviously took the shot in spite of it. Let's say I just could not resist when I stumbled upon him sitting on a tractor at a local town event. The joy on his face was priceless. A little pop of flash would have helped to open up the shadows for a bit more balanced light, but no speedlight with me. When Catherine and I shoot subjects outdoors we always seek out open shade locations for this very reason. The best way to describe "open shade" is right on the edge where the shaded light begins...it is far less harsh than this atrocious light above. Irrespective of all that, I was compelled to grab a quick photo of this little guy.
