The photographer I chose to emulate is Ansel Adams. Adams utilized broad depth of field, full tonal range, clean composition, full detail in the skies, and emphasis on form, texture, and detail. Most of Adams' photographs consisted of landscapes. So, I photographed the Victoria harbor while visiting British Columbia. Just like Adams, I waited for the lighting and a scene to rearrange itself before taking a photo. I waited until near sunset to take this photograph. To achieve a broad depth of field, I used a small aperture which was f/16. I did this by shooting a photo in portrait mode and adjusting the depth of field to f/16. To emphasize texture just like Adams, I included the water surface of the harbor in my photo. The water surface helped add texture to my photo. Adams also had full detail in the skies in his photographs. To achieve this, I adjusted the exposure to capture the cloud details. After I took the photo, I adjusted the contrast and sharpening of the photo for a full range of tones and to bring out more details. Additionally, I converted the photo to black and white to emulate Adam’s classic style.
