Jim Morrison
We went to pay our respects to Jim Morrison, a big hero of mine. Was quite amazing standing there in peace and silence.
Père Lachaise Cemetery, established in 1804 on the outskirts of Paris, is the city’s largest and most renowned burial ground. Named after Father François de la Chaise, confessor to Louis XIV, it was designed as a park-like cemetery with tree-lined avenues and diverse monuments ranging from simple headstones to elaborate mausoleums. Over time, it became both a place of rest and a cultural landmark, housing the graves of countless luminaries including Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, Édith Piaf, Frédéric Chopin, and Marcel Proust. Today, with more than 70,000 tombs spread across 110 acres, Père Lachaise is not only a working cemetery but also an open-air museum of funerary art, attracting millions of visitors who come to honor the dead and experience its history, architecture, and atmosphere.
