Illinois Central Gulf caboose (ICG 199116) in Martin, Tennessee (Weakley County). It is a prominent feature in the downtown Victoria Weldon Park.
This is class N8 steel caboose with a “streamlined” cupola built in 1951. It was formally with Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) and sold to the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1974. It was brought to Martin TN before 2007 and restored by the City of Martin in 2016-2018. A sign in front of the caboose recognizes the contributors to its restoration.
The outside of the caboose has not been noticeably modified since its railroad days. The inside has been nicely restored and serves as a museum to the caboose. Visitors can freely climb on the platforms of the caboose but not enter the cabin.
