When two worlds collide
This is far from all the beautiful photos of the lights people took and posted recently from the brief display of the aurora last week. Looking at all the updates, I went chasing as well but I was more inclined at shooting some night sky in hopes of seeing some meteors along with the northern lights.
My love for astrophotography always makes me try new things just to capture a different view. So instead of taking the usual long exposure milky way core and short exposure aurora photos, I wanted to capture a mix of both the aurora as well as focus on the cygnus region which is perfectly placed in the northern skies. Icing on the cake was the pinks from the aurora were just starting to show when I started imaging. I was at a bortle 3 location with minimal light pollution in the Muskoka area. Since this was a single exposure of 3 minutes and 23 seconds with the camera set on a tracker, my aurora colours aren’t sharp at all. While I admire the shots with all the sharp pillars of green and pink, this somewhat muddled hues with a sky full of stars is growing on me. Hope you enjoy ☺️
