Eurasian Whimbrels flying by
Whimbrel Watch 2024 is going to go down as one of the best watches in recent years! This year, 5954 Hudsonian Whimbrels passed by Whimbrel Point on their way to their breeding grounds on the Arctic Tundra, across the Hudson Bay Lowlands and extending westwards. This is a phenomenal count, and it demonstrates the incredible reliance of one of the traditional migratory routes used by this species for many generations. This year’s number is also special because it surpasses all the records set during the past four years! It may not seem like a long time, but it is still quite significant to see so many more Whimbrel during such a stressful era for all life on the planet.
