Sun Setting over Calcite

With the sun setting Great Republic and Pere Marquette 41 load stone on a warmer September evening.

The Pere Marquette barge originally built as the SS City of Midland served as a passenger and rail car ferry from 1941 till 1988, she was the largest lake car ferry built. After C&O ended its car ferry routes the SS City of Midland sat for nine years before being turned into a deck barge paired to the equally as old tug MT Undaunted.

The MT Undaunted originally built as ATA 199 for the Navy until 1963 when she briefly served for NOAA for a year before serving at the US Merchant Marine Academy until 1993. For five years until 1998 she served as the Krystal K before being renamed the Undaunted and altered for integrated tug work.
