Squacco Heron
Squacco herons historically bred in the Netherlands but are nowadays largely confident to Southern and Eastern Europe. When I read this rarity had touched down in my favourite bird watching area I simply had to go and see it. Luckily it spent a good long while foraging amongst the water-lilies, giving good views to the many birdwatchers and photographers that showed up.
