Whose on the Other End?

In life we reach out often to those that we need

We never question whether or not their advice is best

And, in the moment, I suppose it is just that someone is there

That alone seems to heal whatever is wrong

What I challenge you to do is take account

Double check those that are real and those that are searching

In those moments of doubt, of sadness, and loneliness

Make sure that whose on the other end actually cares

In a world of people who can dress up to be anything

Check the heart and the mind before opening your heart

See who they keep company with and who they keep close

Listen to what they say and see if that's what you want said

Because in a world where you do not honestly know who is on

The other end, life can be lonely and empty if it's not a friend

Life has taught me that it is the quality of the one

On the other end of life... that matters the most

Be the voice that others can come to and keep their hearts safe

Bite your tongue when other times it's easier to rise to debate

Silence your anger with knowledge that all things come to pass

Quiet your pain knowing that the sun will shine again

In the end... be the one at the other end... and be true to yourself

Be a light in the darkness and a beacon of hope

And, never... let anyone... stop you from shining

I am on the other end for many... and they are also for me.
