Bougainvillea is a creeper native to South America, of the nictaginaceae family. It has small flowers and included, in groups of three, in white, pink, red, purple, orange, yellow or white showy bracts (modified leaves).
Its name originated from the French navigator Louis Antoine de Bougainville who discovered the species in Brazil and took it to Europe around 1790. From there, the species spread throughout the world.
