Defiance Before Oblivion
Wind crept across the cliffs. The occasional rattle and crack of pebbles across the stones set the warrior's teeth on edge; was this an ambush?
An uneven wail and gust hung in the air, clearly unnatural. The warrior turned to behold a ghastly terror: a woman, pale and warped by some kind of plague, her hands calcified and hardened, limbs immaterial and adorned with stars, eyes and mouth vacant save for a hungering glow similarly emanating from an immense cavity in her chest. The whole of the stars seemed to radiate from her; not wondrous or beautiful . . . but hungry and terrifying.
Dark wings shuddered on a breeze the warrior could not feel and the creature's feet landed with the thud of heavy barrels. Its empty stare met his gaze with a curiosity, followed by step after step. Words failed the warrior as he gazed into the myriad abyssal maws, but his hands did not; two arms bore his blade down on the creature with all the force he could muster!
Only to be stopped by a loud clang of steel striking a strange metal.
The terrible creature mimicked the warrior's efforts while catching his blade in her hand. A cackle tumbled from her toothless mouth, perhaps a remnant of whoever this was, as her hands grasped air and forged a shard of darkest spaces. This energy showed no consideration for natural law, and no kindness to the warrior's armor as it violently ripped all it touched into itself.
In an instant, the veteran blademaster was no more; his entire being reduced to the smallest particles and consumed by the shard.
Woe to the travelers who knew Damien 'Tag' Taggart (airwolf2004), for he is another victim of the far angel.
