before descent
i woke up to find out we had already entered european airspace and to the sight of ice crystals on the window. i quickly shot a photo before they would melt during descent.
i was definitely home. the sights and sounds i'd gotten so comfortably used to had waved goodbye to me. palm trees turned into lampposts, kankantri into windmills, jungle into a bland tapestry of farmland, creole chatter into silence, and summer into aching reality. in the end i couldn't even bear to wave back.
