The photographer I chose to emulate in their style is Stephen Shore. I appreciate him and his approach to photography because it captures a sense of aesthetic beauty all the while encapsulating the parts of a snapshot that influenced modern picture taking to this very day. As I was inspired by him, I did my best to replicate his thought process and subject matter. His subject matter varied, from gas stations, empty lots, people, and other things that are commonplace in everyday life. His thought process when taking photos is that it should be as natural as possible, like capturing a screenshot of what I see. This choice of subject matter and thought process shows the truest expression of a snapshot. So, I took a picture that captures what I see, a big Felix sign and cars moving about the intersection. This scene isn’t anything special, but is what I wanted to capture as it is a natural thing we see everyday. There’s a special thing about a fully natural view of something we see fully untouched by romanticism, and this is what Shore wanted to show in his photography too. And, in the spirit of capturing the full natural beauty of everyday life, Shore did not post-process any of his photos, so this photo is the pure and unfiltered shot I took. It may not have the best composition, and I see problems that I want to solve with post-processing, but that captures Shore’s thought process, so I am satisfied with this result.
