How Texas Happened V
Alamo Cenotaph (marble, 1936) by Pompeo Coppini. The monument was originally intended to be the tallest object in America, reaching 802 feet, with a massive obelisk resting above a base made of 30 foot depictions of the heroes of the Alamo. However, the final structure stands 60 feet tall, with the figures in partial relief.
