Across the city revellers celebrated the arrival of the new year. I went to bed early. The fireworks got going at 2am. I thought that was as appropriate as 'new year' itself - an almost random choice. Like this egg.
Perihelion (when Earth is closest to the Sun) occurs 3rd January - for me, that's the new year.
Nevertheless, I hope everyone has a happy new year, wars stop, and the folly of greed ends. I don't bet on it but I live in hope.
