Cobbled together

The forecourt of this house close to Lancaster castle has these attractive diamond patterned cobbles. They were laid by French prisoners of war.

If cobbles are close to you then reflect on how they got there. I spent time in Germany where the cobbles in the barracks were also laid by French POWs during the Franco-Prussian war. In another place they were laid by Russian POWs during WW2.

Proof that for most of us that war is just cobblers.
