Alaskan Snow Cat

The Canada lynx, a gray ghost of the North, is a fascinating creature, evading human contact and serving as one-half of a classic predator-prey relationship. It feeds almost exclusively on the snowshoe hare, killing an average of one hare every two or three days. If hares become scarce, it will turn to killing grouse, rodents, and other animals. The link between lynx and hare is so tight in the North that the two species’ populations fluctuate in almost perfect synchrony. These felines are solitary hunters that are more active at night than in the day. Their unique, well-adapted, nocturnal hunting abilities allow them to spot prey in the darkness from 250 feet away.
