24-8-25. Sydney trains operated 80's built Comeng V set V5 is spotted just outside of Burwood station on run W514 bound for Central.

 

It's an unusual sight to see V sets or any intercity train running on the local tracks on the 6 track mainline as they usually use the express, but as a result of weekend trackwork trains leaving Central heading via the mainline would need to travel via the local.

 

As of the writing of this post V sets have begun their decline with several sets along with individual cars already being scrapped. With their duties on the Central coast being overtaken by D sets this past June it's only a matter of time before they are completly withdrawn from the network.

 

With the expectance that D sets are to begin service on the Blue Mountains line by as early as the end of this year, its uknown as to how much more time these icons can borrow before they are completly withdrawn from regular service.

 

Along with an increase in vandalism of these trains additional sets have been withdrawn early to become parts spares to keep the current fleet going for the time being.
