Peder B. Helland - Stardust 🎶
In this exhibition, called Stardust: sprinkled beauty, or how a Star set me on the search for beauty, I present a collection of eight images that I have created over the past nearly one year (the oldest was shot on the 30th April, last year), all of them covered with Stardust and all of them carrying a splinter of my heart. Half of them can still be seen on my personal Flickr, and the other half are only a memory.
But, let's just get this out of the way: I do not consider myself an artist. At most, I think of me as someone who documents the art and beauty that is already out there, that others created. Most of the time, being someone who documents beauty, I photograph landscapes without avatars, more often than not editing them in a way that removes a bit of their typical SL appearance, making them scruffier in a sense, more imperfect, rougher, but more me, definitely me. Occasionally, especially when I want to share a story, an intimate thought, a private emotion, I use my avatar in the scene in one way or another, but this became rarer. In any case, I feel comfortable with landscapes, and landscapes are the theme of Stardust: sprinkled beauty, my first exhibition.
Speaking of which, because I am not an artist, I would have never thought of myself as someone who could expose works in an Art Gallery, let alone one so serious, so professional, so committed with Art and the artists as the Michiel Bechir Gallery. Being my first exhibition, there is very little I can explain in terms of a trajectory. But I can try to explain why I am here today in the likes of an artist, what are the driving forces behind my creative process. And for that, three words come to my mind which are amongst the most beautiful and meaningful words there are, words that I repeat once and again on my Flickr posts.
Friendship would be one. I took my first SL picture on the early days of July, 2022, following the lead, inspired and encouraged by a very talented artist, and a most special and beloved friend. Over time, pictures kept coming, celebrating, valuing and showing that this friendship could overcame every obstacle. But time also brought new friends whom I could learn from, who supported me and encouraged me in the most generous and warm ways to continue documenting beauty. And it was also friendship what ended up leading to where we are now, inviting me to expose my work, convincing me that I could do it, or helping me to set it up in a way that makes me feel very happy.
Love would be another one. Love is where I draw all my inspiration from, be it the Love for someone dear to me or Love in general, for I always mean Love, not romantic love or selfish love. And you may rightfully ask, what does love have to do with the picture of a meadow? And I will say, everything. For love is what compels me to go out there and seek for beauty, with a particular state of mind, with a very specific emotion and heartbeat. Love is what makes me give my best to find a nice frame, balanced, pleasant, meaningful. Love is what makes me edit a more or less flat image into something with depth, with dramatic emotion, with my simplicity. Love is what puts music and words to my images, being love a word that almost invariably appears in my texts. And for love I share them, to show that I do not give up, that I am always there.
Gratitude is the last one. And just let me show what I mean by finishing this clumsy BIO with the acknowledgments for this exhibition, with my gratitude to the people that in one way or another are accompanying me here:
- First of all, I want to thank you, dear Visitor (the same is true for my Flickr friends), for finding time, no matter how long, to visit this collection and for reading these words. I really hope you find beauty here and leave with a lighter heart and a smile.
- Michiel Bechir and Maggie Runo's generosity, patience and support have been absolutely amazing, and having my first exhibition ever in their place, the Michiel Bechir Gallery, an indescribable honour.
- Raven Arcana, Cheeky Veltistos and Michiel are the perfect companions for this first experience sharing my work in an exhibition. Knowing their work is nearby makes me feel cozy. Do not leave without enjoying their wonderful pieces of art.
- Lori Bailey's advice, experience, support and friendship meant the world to me. Knowing that she, admirable artist and seasoned exhibitor, was covering my back gave me the confidence to dive, head first, into this experience, and if you liked how I presented my work, you shall know my dear Lori's teachings and good taste are the answer.
- My dear friend - ̗̀ єℳℳ α ̖́-, an artist herself, lives Art in a very special way. She kept telling me that the artist's hat suited me up and I chose to believe her, thus if I am here it is also because of her gentle push.
- My pictures were shot in eight different lands which are well known for their beauty: Summer Trace, Seagull Drift, Autumn Trace, Bella's Lullaby, Borkum, Florence, Frogmore and Elvion. The real artists are those behind those worlds and, without them, I could not have shared with you so much beauty.
- And last, but not least, my most sincere and eternal gratitude is for my Star, impossibly distant, but with her light always shining bright and blue in my sky. Everything you see here is because of her.
With all the Love 💖
