Target #309 Santa Maria, CA
Capturing Target and it's Black Friday Crowds while there being crowds on Black Friday still exists somewhat. Seeing the amount of people here today gave me a little hope that the Black Friday shopping craze may carry on a little longer. There were some parking spots blocked off for extra drive up and go spaces to help meet demand for Black Friday pick up orders.
This was formerly a Gemco, which closed down and was replaced with Target after American Stores closed down Gemco to avoid a hostile takeover of the company. Target initially left a lot intact when it first reopened in the former Gemco, but since any trace of this Target being a former Gemco has been erased in the nearly four decades since Target took this store over. One thing that does remain intact is the split entry and exit where the entry doors are more separate from the exit doors. The space in between I believe at one point was Gemcos in-store cafe, Starbucks now has taken it's place with it's in-store cafe in it's spot.
This is one of a handful of Target locations in CA to have a garden center. The garden center closed in 2010, with its entrance from the store walled off. Most of the garden center is now used as extra storage space.
