Fred Meyer #664 Redmond, WA
UPDATE: Unfortunately this Fred Meyer is closing as part of a round of closures from Kroger following their failed merger with Albertsons. As of October 2025 this store will be closed.
To close out this year, here is probably one of my favorite stores I visit this year, these photos being taken on July 24, 2023 while I was in the PNW over the summer. This was around when I was beginning to have interest in documenting stores in my area.
I loved this store particularly because I simply don't think there is anything like this superstore anywhere in Southern California.
This Fred Meyer in Redmond, I believe, opened in 2003, and hasn't seen many changes since it opened, however, when it opened this store surely had to be the first of it's kind, as massive 2-level hypermarkets were not so widespread compared to now with many multi-level Target stores in existence, as well as Kroger's widespread expansion of this hypermarket expansion evident in this Fred Meyer. Even with the expansion of this hypermarket concept, you simply don't have many store's in Southern California where you can get a latte at an in-store Starbucks cafe on a mezzanine which overlooks the entire store.
It is a major contrast on how Kroger builds out their stores in certain parts of the country in comparison to the Kroger remodels they have done on countless Ralphs stores, and seeing this makes me see why people notice a major difference in Kroger's efforts in building stores in other parts of the US in comparison to the Southern California market.
If anyone out there has any more information on this store, please feel free to comment.
