Sunset at Mill Street Yard

WAMX SD60M 6033, built as UP 6223 in September 1990 and painted for Watco's Kaw River Railroad (KAW), idles in Mill Street Yard in Kansas City under a fiery sunset. Kaw River Railroad was founded in 2004 to get their foot in the door for Kansas City and originally leased trackage from Kansas City Southern, and expanded their leases in 2005. In 2006, Watco took over operations of the Kansas City Terminal (KCTL) and based their Kansas Coty operations in Mill Street Yard. Up until early 2022,;Kaw River operations were done using power from the KCT or the railroad's own SW1500 (WAMX 1702), As an effort to modernize the Watco fleet, many subsidaries recieved second-hand EMD SD60M locomotives from Union Pacific. KawpRiver (obviously) wasn't an exception, as in early 2022 two fresh Triclops SD60M locomotives numbered WAMX 6032 and WAMX 6¹033 respectively and painted Watco yellow and black emerged from Mid-America Car. Not long after, the twins were put to work and quickly became the main road power on the KCT/KAW. On this specific evening, the crew readies their manifest to depart Mill Street Yard with one of the two Triclops SD60Ms on the point.
