Growing concern - Quantum Fold Chapter 6/2
Kayla’s brow furrowed. “What do you mean you can’t allow us to fall into their hands? We don’t intend to be captured by the reptilians.”
“Do you intend to hold us prisoner?” demanded Kayla. “We are on a mission and time is running out.”
K’hall’s expression darkened, a shadow crossing his features. “Let us speak plainly. Had I not intervened, you would already be in the lizard’s grasp.”
“No, not prisoners. But I cannot allow you to leave” He leaned closer, his presence suddenly oppressive. “Tell me of your mission. Why were you searching for the underground? What lies beneath that demands such risk?”
Kayla hesitated, then drew a slow breath, steadying the tremor in her chest. “The reptilians reproduce in cycles—synchronized, absolute. When the new brood hatches, the old dies. That cycle is beginning now. If we destroy the nest—all of it—we end them.”
K’hall’s eyes locked onto hers, unreadable... “How can you be sure of this? That this is the moment?”
“My people have studied them for millions of years. Their biological rhythms are precise—predictable. They regenerate every 1,517 years. We’ve tried before, but we failed to destroy every egg. With this hatching the reptiles will reach a critical population. They will outnumber the humans. This time, we must succeed.”
She looked directly at him, her voice low. “Earth has changed drastically since my time. I don’t know where the nest is anymore—not in this time.”
Adrienne’s breath caught. “Arcturian.” Ahe knew that sounded familiar. Star beings. An advanced civilization from the Arcturus star system. Earth guardians, according to UFO lore.
She spoke, urgency sharpening her tone. “Everything we’ve gathered pointed to the entrance you attacked as the most likely one leading to the nest. We need your guidance. If that wasn’t the entrance we seek, could you please lead us to the correct one?”
Kayla looked at Adrienne. Puzzled at her approach.
Before K’hall could answer, one of his crew approached swiftly. “K’hall. Another signal. Coordinates are unstable, but it is close.”
“Thank you, Avhal. Move to intercept. Stay cloaked.”
K’hall turned back to the girls, his voice edged with suspicion. “Tell me—do you have allies I should know about?”
