Delivery - Quantum Fold Chapter 5/5
“There it is. The entrance—look.” Kayla thrust the viewer into Adrienne’s hands.
Adrienne peered through the viewer. “I can see inside,” she whispered. “There are… dozens of them in there.”
She handed the viewer back, unsettled by how the massive opening seemed to vanish to the naked eye.
Then—air brakes hissed in the distance.
They turned.
A military 6x6 had pulled off the highway, stopping precisely where the coyote had lingered. Now a reptilian stood in full view, speaking with the driver.
A second truck rumbled up, followed by a fully armored Humvee. Adrienne counted: nine soldiers and the reptilian. Several gazes shifted toward the mound.
Canvas flaps were rolled up. Truck tailgates lowered.
Adrienne leaned closer. “The trucks are empty,” she murmured.
Kayla’s tone was cold. “They’re picking something up. They’re working together.”
Twilight bled into the sky. The wait stretched into unease.
“Something’s happening,” Kayla breathed. The entrance glowed in the viewer—soft, unnatural light pouring from within. Shapes stirred.
Several reptilians stepped outside.
Then two more emerged, guiding a hover cart loaded with metal drums.
They slowly proceeded toward the road and as they did a second group emerged with an identical hover cart loaded with more drums.
Soldiers shifted—now armed. One mounted the Humvee’s .50-cal turret, eyes scanning the perimeter.
Inside the entrance, the lights went dark.
The reptilians reached the trucks. The drums were transferred from the hover carts onto the trucks and secured.
Adrienne raised her eyes—and froze.
