Paranoia? - Quantum Fold Chapter 1/ 3

As Adrienne pulled on her hoodie and stepped out of the library, she paused outside the entrance. Holding her phone as if checking a message, she subtly scanned her surroundings. A couple of students sat nearby, engrossed in conversation. She exhaled, telling herself she was overreacting, but still quickened her pace toward her car.

 

This is ridiculous, she thought. Maybe returning the disc in the morning would be the best course of action. She reached for her car door—but froze. A handprint smudged the window glass. Her breath hitched as a chill ran down her spine. Without hesitation, she slipped inside and locked the doors. Everything appeared untouched, just as she had left it.

 

Determined not to take any chances, she opted for an indirect route home, weaving through quiet streets. Late-night traffic was sparse, and she saw no signs of anyone trailing her. Yet the unease remained. If someone truly wanted the disc, why not just buy it at the store, as she had? It didn’t make sense. Maybe she is the target or maybe she is just imagining things.
