Saline Nutrient Agar is a selective and differential medium that is used for the isolation and cultivation of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a halophilic bacterium that can cause food poisoning. The medium contains a high concentration of sodium chloride (NaCl), which is essential for the growth of V. parahaemolyticus. It also contains a variety of nutrients that support the growth of this bacterium.

Saline Nutrient Agar is recommended by ISO 8914:1990 for the isolation and enumeration of V. parahaemolyticus from food and animal feed. It is also used in clinical laboratories for the diagnosis of V. parahaemolyticus infections.
